Scaffolding Outriggers

Scaffold Outriggers are essential stability components used to widen the base of a tower, significantly reducing the risk of tipping. Compatible with both 5' x 5' Outdoor Towers and Bakers Scaffolds, outriggers are the primary solution for maintaining a safe height-to-base ratio as your workspace moves further off the ground.

System Applications

• 5' x 5' Outdoor Outriggers: These heavy-duty steel extensions clamp securely to the base of the vertical frames. They are required when building tall, narrow towers to ensure the structure remains stable against wind loads and crew movement.
• Bakers Scaffold Outriggers: Specifically designed for interior units, these allow you to safely stack sections to reach higher ceilings. They maintain the scaffold's mobility while providing the wider footprint necessary for elevated interior work.
• Caster & Jack Compatibility: Both types are designed to accept standard casters or leveling jacks, allowing you to maintain a mobile or leveled setup even with the outriggers installed.

OSHA Stability Requirements

• The 4:1 Stability Rule: OSHA requires that the height of a scaffold tower never exceed four times its minimum base width. Once your platform height surpasses this limit, outriggers must be installed to widen the base.
• Full Set Installation: Outriggers must be installed in a complete set (four per tower) and properly braced to ensure the load is distributed evenly across the expanded footprint.
• Structural Attachment: Ensure all clamps and locking pins are fully tightened to the main frame legs. The outrigger is only as effective as its connection to the core structure.
• Leveling: When using outriggers, all contact points—including the outrigger feet—must be level and in firm contact with the ground or floor surface to prevent "walking" or shifting.
